Gran Paradiso, from Valsavarenche, is one of the most sought-after peaks by mountaineers from all over the world. You will sleep at the Vittorio Emanuele II refuge or the Chabod refuge and in two days of acclimatization you will reach the summit of 4061m.
Gran Paradiso was climbed for the first time in 1860 and together with Monte Rosa it is the ideal peak for all-round mountaineering training.
Under the supervision of an Alpine Guide you will learn rope techniques and maneuvers on glacial terrain and you will be accompanied by mountain professionals towards an objective coveted by many, surrounded by the beauty of the protected area of the Gran Paradiso National Park.
Schedule
The following program may be subject to change at the sole discretion of the Mountain Guide for reasons of weather, conditions of the participants and safety of the glacier.
DAY 1
Meeting at Pont Valsavarenche, parking at the end of the closed road (to go up to the Vittorio Emanuele II refuge) or at the Chabod refuge car park (to go up to the Chabod refuge).
Presentations and ascent to the refuge Vittorio Emanuele (2735m) / Chabod (2710m).
Easy trekking, on hiking terrain
(about 2h30, 775m altitude difference for Vittorio Emanuele II, 890m for Chabod)
Overnight stay at the refuge with dinner.
(Possibility of appointment directly at the refuge, depending on the instructions provided by the guide)
The refuge, time and meeting place will be indicated by the Mountain Guide,
depending on the weather conditions of the day.
Normally meeting after lunch, or in any case to arrive in time for dinner in the refuge at 7pm.
DAY 2
Wake up early to look for optimal climbing conditions on the glacier.
Breakfast (around 4, based on guide directions and day conditions),
approach and formation of the team.
The climb on the glacier towards the summit of Gran Paradiso (4061m) begins.
For the descent, follow the uphill itinerary in reverse, down to the valley’s car park.
Difference in altitude from the refuge to the Gran Paradiso summit is approximately 1350m

EXPENSES FOR SHELTERS Season 2024
• 1 night in a refuge, half board, dinner and breakfast
if Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II in room, €50.50 per person;
if Chabod Refuge, per person, from max. €60.50 to €52.50 (depending on the room layout 2-4-6 beds/dorm);
• 1 night guide in the refuge, half board, to be divided among the participants

The rates relating to the refuges may undergo variations established and applied by the managers, without any responsibility attributable to Adventure Dreamers.
Required personal equipment
- Layered clothing suitable for high mountains (see FAQ)
- Harness, crampons, ice axe and helmet (can be rented, see FAQ below)
- Sunglasses (at least cat. 3, preferably 4), sun screen, hat, neck warmer, two pairs of snow gloves, thermos or water bottle depending on the temperature, 30/40 liter backpack
- Rigid, high-ankle, waterproof mountain boots

No previous experience is required, just good physical training and the habit of walking in the mountains.
The climb is reserved for adults only; minors only if accompanied by parents and/or legal guardians.
Progression above 4000m is more tiring than at low altitude, this is due to the lack of oxygen.
If you have mountain experience even in the summer season and can do trekking with more than 1500m of positive altitude difference without being too tired, you can participate.

A WhatsApp group will be created for the participants, about a week before, where they can organize themselves independently with any shared cars, so as to split travel costs and limit their ecological footprint.

The appointment can take place at the parking lot of the Pont campsite, Valsavarenche, around 1/2pm.

The appointment can take place at the car park of the Chabod refuge, Valsavarenche, around 1pm/2pm.

N.B.: Sometimes the guide will wait for customers directly at the refuge (in this case you will have the details for the easy signposted and hiking trek to the refuge, unaccompanied)
The WhatsApp group will be created about a week before the event! The Mountain Guide will indicate, on the WhatsApp group, the meeting time on day 1 only 2/3 days before the climb, based on the weather conditions (not predictable well in advance).
On the morning of day 2 the wake-up call will be around 4am. The climb will be tackled at first light (frontal light is essential) so as to guarantee greater safety and stability of the glacier. You will return to the car from early afternoon until mid-afternoon (depending on the speed of ascent and descent of the group).

RENTAL The request for rental equipment must be communicated in good time, at least one week before the start of the event.
However, we recommend communicating this when purchasing the event. The guide will bring all the equipment directly to the event.

• FAILURE TO REACH THE MINIMUM NUMBER: if the group of participants does not reach the minimum number, you will be entitled to a refund or you can use the fee for any other event. It’s your choice!
• FAILURE TO REACH A PEAK: in case of failure to reach a peak foreseen in the program, no refund will be provided. • INAPPROPRIATE EQUIPMENT: it is not possible to receive a refund if you do not have the mandatory technical equipment and/or unsuitable clothing. In this case the guide may decide not to let you participate in the climb • OTHER CAUSES: for any other cause of cancellation on our part you are entitled to a refund.
• COVID OR OTHER ILLNESSES/INJURIES: there is no refund due to COVID, various injuries or other illnesses. No refunds will be given if a member of the group is unable to reach the summit or if the guide decides to descend due to reasons due to the group’s abilities or the weather. The group agrees to respect the unquestionable judgment of the Alpine Guide and that nothing is owed by the organization.
