The Dolomite Mountains were the birthplace of the via ferrata. The routes were used during the First World War when the mountainside was the theatre of battle between Austria and Italy.
The Dolomites are unequaled in the number and beauty of their vie ferrate offering not only strong emotions but more. The Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.
The Dolomite Mountains were the birthplace of the via ferrata. The routes were used during the First World War when the mountainside was the theatre of battle between Austria and Italy. Fighting for higher positions, the soldiers fixed steps and ladders into the rock to be able to navigate the mountains more easily.
More than half a century later, these fixtures provide excellent access to the sublime peaks of the Dolomites. All the via ferratas have now been renovated and modernized, to guarantee a greater standard of safety.
Some of our favourites spots are:
East Dolomites (Val di Fassa, Val Gardena, Val Badia)
- Marmolada west ridge. Includes crossing a glacier and reaching the summit of the quin of Dolomites. A rather easy via ferrata, although glacier crossing has to be considered (intermediate-advanced – 1 day).
- Tridentina Sella, in the Sella group. A challenging via ferrata with easy access, with beautiful views of the mountains and the village at the foot of the massif. It can be done in a half day.
- Mesules, in the Sella group. One of the oldest via routes in the area, doable in a half day. A very demanding exposed via ferrata which starts at the Sella pass and ends at the summit of Piz Selva.
- Roda de Vael and Masarè, in the Rosengarten group. Two routes close by which we can easily do in the same day. Masarè is the most demanding of the two, but also incredibly beautiful.
- The long Lagazuoi tunnel: The famous helical tunnel was excavated during the First World War by Italian soldiers. You will see many locations at which there are historic items with detailed descriptions, and many historic curiosities. In addition, there are some places where you can leave the gallery for a short distance, or admire the view through the windows carved in the rock.
- The Sass de Stria trenches: Along the southwest face of the Sass de Stria Mountain the Alpine Army Corps bolted a new via ferrata that follows the historic trail Lieutenant Mario Fusetti took during the Great War I. A very interesting yet never too difficult circular tour around this mysterious mountain, along trails, tunnels, trenches and the new via ferrata.
- Monte Paterno, in front of 3 Cime di Lavaredo. The start of the ascent is inside of a tunnel used during World War I. The view of the 3 Cime di Lavaredo will leave you breathless.

You can choose between three different difficulty levels. The first is ideal for beginners who are trying this activity for the first time, while the second and third levels are for more experienced and fitter individuals on medium and also very difficult via Ferrata.
The difficulty in a Ferrata derives mainly from the steepness of the wall and the number of holds and supports, whether natural or artificial.

FAQ
Fly arrival in Milano (any Airport), Verona, Venice. Then you can take a private transfer to reach the place you want to explore (Cortina D’Ampezzo, Val Gardena, Val di Fassa, Madonna Di Campiglio, and so on)
• BAD WEATHER: The decision regarding the cancellation of an excursion lies with the mountain guide. Winter courses do not necessarily have to be held in the sun. The mountain guide will evaluate the feasibility of the course and the variation of locations from time to time, also being able to foresee part of the activity in a sheltered environment.
In case of total cancellation, a recovery date will be established by the mountain guide.
In the event of bad weather during the activities, once the course has started, no refund will be provided. We will look for a sheltered environment where we can carry out manoeuvres.
• FAILURE TO PARTICIPATE: if you are unable to participate in one or more course outings due to personal reasons you will not be able to recover the outing and it will not be possible to obtain a refund.
• FAILURE TO REACH THE MINIMUM NUMBER: if the group of participants does not reach the minimum number, you will be entitled to a refund or you can use the fee for any other event. It’s your choice! Possibility of integrating the missing fee to start the course if all participants wish.
• IMPOSSIBILITY TO FIND TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT FOR RENTAL or INAPPROPRIATE EQUIPMENT: it is not possible to receive a refund if you have not found mandatory technical equipment for rent or your equipment is not suitable. In this case we recommend purchasing new equipment.
• OTHER CAUSES: for any other cause of cancellation on your part you are not entitled to a refund.
• COVID OR OTHER ILLNESSES/INJURIES: a refund is not provided due to COVID, various injuries or other illnesses.
No refunds will be made if a member of the group is unable to continue a lesson due to physical level or learning problems; or if the guide decides to go down for reasons due to the capabilities of the group or the weather. The group agrees to respect the unquestionable judgment of the Alpine Guide and that nothing is owed by the organization.

The appointment is around 9am. (the time is communicated by the mountain guide one or two days before on the whatsapp group based on the weather).
