About this event
Sentiero dei Fiori in the Adamello, a via ferrata along the World War I trench line, the site of battles and clashes during the 1915–1918 conflict.
The Sentiero dei Fiori is a magnificent and airy via ferrata that follows the ridge dividing Val Narcanello from the Presena Glacier. Starting from Passo del Castellaccio at an elevation of 2,963 m, it continues southward, remaining consistently along the 3,000-meter line. A theater of battles and clashes during the 1915–1918 conflict, the trail was restored beginning in the 1960s thanks to the work of many enthusiasts who brought back to life tunnels, emplacements, and bridges built by both Italian and Austrian soldiers during the war. As you move along the via ferrata, not only do wartime remains accompany you, but numerous alpine plants also emerge along the route after the winter snow melts; Alpine sorrel, soldanella, alpine daisy, and glacier buttercup are just some of the floral species that gave this fantastic route its name. Toward the end of the ferrata, a well-deserved break at the Capanna Amici della Montagna, located at 3,166 m, allows you to enjoy another highlight of the Sentiero dei Fiori: the panorama. Vast glaciers—once among the largest in Italy—and their peaks frame this place, now firmly part of the history of mountaineering. Their names? We’ll tell you on site. Meeting at 8:00 AM at the ticket office of the Paradiso Cable Car at Passo del Tonale, which we take up to Passo Paradiso (2,565 m). From there, following trail no. 44, we reach Passo del Castellaccio (2,963 m) in about one and a half hours.
After putting on our harnesses and via ferrata sets, we begin the Sentiero dei Fiori, which with several ascents and descents leads us to Passo di Lago Scuro (2,970 m), passing via Corno di Lago Scuro (3,166 m) and the famous Capanna Amici della Montagna.
The mountaineering difficulties are over; now a comfortable and scenic trail leads us back to Passo Presena, where the new and modern Paradiso cable car will take us back down to the valley. Elevation gain: 800 m Descent: approximately 400 m
